Why, oh why are people surprised? It is an historical, if somewhat obscure fact that in WWII, a high ranking Japanese admiral who attended university in the US prior to the war told his colleagues it would be a mistake to attack the mainland USA, because "every citizen is armed." Given the present, high stakes "who’s going to blink first" situation going on between Russia and the West, what can anyone expect? Why would Russia arm potential hostile combatants. If you think this situation with Russia in Ukraine is bad, you aren’t even close to realizing how serious it is. It’s not bad, it’s utterly terrible and could easily blow up into s world wide conflagration that could make the first two look like the American Revolution.
